Dovetail Markers & Marking Gauges
Hand-cut dovetails start with clean layout. A dovetail marker gives you the slope for hardwood or softwood, and a wheel marking gauge scores a fine baseline that your chisel can register in.
Which dovetail ratio should I use?
1:8 is common for hardwoods and 1:6 for softwoods.
Why a wheel gauge instead of a pencil?
The wheel cuts the fibers, so the line is thinner and gives your chisel a starting edge.
What warranty and returns do I get?
Every tool ships free in the US with a 12-month warranty and 30-day returns.
Buying guide
How to mark accurately
Accuracy starts at layout. A mark that's off by a pencil width grows into a gap at glue-up.
Engraved scales and pencil guide holes let you draw parallel lines and repeat measurements without a second tool.
Use a knife line
A marking knife or wheel gauge leaves a finer line than a pencil.
Reference one edge
Measure every part from the same reference face.
Check your square
Flip the square and draw two lines; they should overlap.
